The double capacity is being achieved by making the tape about half as thick,
which always makes for engineering difficulties.  The early buzz was that this
was to be available at the end of this month, and that drives could be
field-upgradable for about $1000 each.  I also heard that by the end of the
year that capacity would be doubled again, by doubling the number of tracks.
But of course these enhancements will be available only when they prove
