FYI.  Just to let everyone know we found the answer.  The problem lurked in
tcpn05.  This disable the old command in the tcpip.cfg file.  WE had to add
commands in the autoexec.ncf file to set the packet size back to the maximum
the network card could hold.

for ethernet servers
set use specific mtu=on
set maximum interface mtu=1500

for token ring servers
set use specific mtu=on
set maximum interface mtu=4096


these are not documented.
