We had a problem with slow file recoveries until recently. To get a pick
list on a client with many files (50,000+ files), it would take forever,
especially when trying to get inactive files.
  We upgraded our ADSM servers on AIX from 2.1.5.15 to 2.1.5.18 and have
seen a dramatic improvement in restore performance. Restores that took 30
minutes to get a pick list now take 5 seconds.
  I'm not sure if they have the 2.1.5.18 level in an MVS version, but if
they do, I recommend upgrading to it.

                        MVS server running Adsm v2.1.12
                        The backup media is mixed:
                                manual 3480's
                                tape library 3590
                                3494 robotic
                        Aix clients running v2.1.06G
                Our problem is that when asking the server to give us
        the database info for us to select the files to restore on a
        particular directory, it is taking hours (5-6hrs) to get this info.
        We cannot understand why this is happening. Has anyone had any idea
        why this is happening?
