It sounds like you need to do two things.

The backup probably failed because you have an unlabelled volume on the machine.
Solution: Add a label!

The Scheduler can actually be installed as a service. Check out the icons in teh
ADSM group, and if no luck there, look for a program DSMCSVCI.
