If you have a 9714 or a 9710 and are having problems labelling tapes,
check that the library is in "Fastload" mode.

We initially had problems labelling tapes. We kept getting IO errors
on the library. It turned out that ADSM support for the 9714 is a
little "basic" and the "fastload" option needed to be turned on when
     configuring the library.

     Carl.

John Stephens is having major problems writing labels on tapes in a
STK 9714 library. ADSM label libvol or DSMLABEL will label some
tapes, but not others. We've thought drives, barcodes, cables, etc
from a hardware standpoint, but keep coming back to software problems.

If enough of us are seeing this...
