  6. Handle all problems eminating from the installed IBM product base
  7. I pre-dominantly focused on storage as of 1984.
  8. Keep IBM administration records in synch with customers profiles and vice versa
  9. Ensure currency of customer software products through PTF maintenance/upgrades

I received as of 1984 to 1990 six consecutive SE Marketing Excellence Awards for work done above expected norms and to the customer's extreme satisfaction. These awards allowed me to join IBM Clubs as an SE at places like the Wild Coast Sun Resort, Mauritius, Corfu, London and Pretoria.

I attended overseas IBM education courses as follow:

In La Hulpe: Advanced Storage Products Education in 1985

DFSMS Advanced Implementation in 1986

ADSM ESP Training in 1994

In Basingstoke: DFSMS 1.1 to 1.2 ESP course in 1995

In 1984 I co-authored the DFHSM Implementation Primer on a 2 month residency in IBM San Jose ITSO offices.

I was invited to present at the South African Computer Society on subjects like Distributed Storage Management and presented as guest at IBM South Africa's Systems Management Institute locally in South Africa. Both these engagements occurred in 1996.

I was born in Grootfontein, Namibia on the 11 th of September 1958.

I matriculated in Windhoek High School, Windhoek, Namibia in 1979. I then served in the South African military forces for one year in their ammunition depots on the Namibian border.

I studied at University of Stellenbosch during 1978 and 1980 and mastered in Applied Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics and Physics to obtain an BSc degree.

I married Alida Wilhelmina Esplin on the 1st of February 1980 and am now the father of 4 children, Norman (10), Ada-Ann (7), Danielle and Chanelle (both 4).

I live in Cape Town, South Africa now for the last decade. Prior to that I worked for IBM in Johannesburg, South Africa, for 7 years.

My years of work at IBM (16.42) includes the company name changes during the mid-eighties when IBM disinvested in South Africa and ISM, then ISG, and again IBM was formed.
