You might also consider using a device class of type file and writing the 
database backups to some other drive in the system (this won't address the 
disaster recovery problem, but will address the database backup problem) or 
onto some removable device like a jazz or zip drive.  Small sites, small 
databases, this might work good.  You could even have the device class file 
point to a drive on another system and solve the DR problem too.
