Peter ,
        you didn't mention if the restore was being done with the option
to restore active and inactive files. If it is there is a reported
problem with version 2 of ADSM that has not been fixed. The difference
in time between listing only active files compared to active and
inactive is enormous. ( The latest word from IBMLINK on this in a
problem I reported to IBM is "APAR PQ05614 should be fixed in PTF 18 of
v2. There is no date set yet for this ptf level on MVS".).

Another point to consider is that doing a restore via the dir tree in
the gui is not the most effective method. I would suggest that you use
either the file spec or subdir  branch, depending on whether it is a
file or dir restore that you are doing.
