This is consistent with my experience! I can almost consistently cause the
error by backing up a fileset with a large 40+Meg file. I've also tried
detunning the network IO parameters (i.e. window size, buffer size, etc.) to
the smallest (i.e. slowest) settings possible to no avail.

My backups all go to a disk pool first, so I can't confirm what happens when
going directly to tape.
It's good to know that I'm not the only one having this problem. Now if I can
only get the vendors & support people (i.e. IBM, CISCO & Our Internal network
group) to quit pointing fingers at each other, we might get this solved!
