Here is what you do....

I have administrative command schedules which run the follow command:

DELETE VOLHISTORY TODATE=-7 TYPE=DBBACKUP

this resets any database tape backups 7days old or older. This way I run
a new backup daily and expire the old ones. I also have
command schedules which do my database backups to specific tape volumes
in a range. I can give you that command:

backup db type=full devclass=dltclass
volumenames=d50122,d50123,d50124,d50125,d50126,d50127,d50128 Scratch=no
