Paul -

I have to admit to being stumped on this one. We run on an Amdahl 5995M - 10
way (10670) - I think the engine speed on it is about 60 MIPS before you
figure in the MP overhead. My DB is 9GB, which is big, but not a large as
others I have heard on this list.

It has been stated here many times that ADSM does not (at least in MVS)
really take advantage of multiple engines. Therefore, I could see a
situation if you have an MP where ADSM could drive "his" engine at 100%, but
the rest of the machine has plenty of excess capacity (the 80% that you
mentioned?)

I saw the post from Tim Pittson about him seeing the problem in AIX when the
server was processing a client with a large number of entries. I don't have
anyone that I know of that is that big - I would suspect that my busiest server
would only go about 200K entries (although I do have several of these.)

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Jerry, My data base is 1,980 MB and the MVS processor is not running 100%
at the time I run the EXPIRE.
I run the EXPIRE daily, while no backups are running. I also turn
migration off during this time by setting reclaim to 100%.
In other words nothing is running except EXPIRE during the hang ups. The
MVS system is normally running in the 80% range
during this time. I also have the same problem Saturday and Sunday.
Thanks for the reply.
