David,
We use SQL-Backtrack from BMC/Datatools, and it works quite well.
SQL-Backtrack calls the ADSM API to store everything onto our AIX ADSM
servers. There is not too much detail on the ADSM side about what
SQL-Backtrack does (this is supposed to be addressed in ADSM R3), but
SQL-Backtrack keep lots of logs about what is backed up where. It gives
much more flexibility than Sybase dump utility: you can restore objects in
a database, you can setup SQL-Backtrack servers and have other database
machines act as clients, you can set dump levels for backups, you can test
SQL-Backtrack processes in a dry run mode without having anything happen,
and it can be used as a faster alternative to bcp.
