Re: 3570 Tape setting up

Hi,
I have had the same problem with the IBM 3570 B02 Library. This Library has
two devices, so you have to add an element number while defining the two
drives. I have not found any comment about this in the manuals of the
library. The element number depends on the library. In case of the 3570 B02
the element numbers are 16 and 17. You should check these numbers with a
tool called "tapeutil". You have got this software with the library. With
"tapeutil" you can get inventory information about the devices and then you
can get the element number.
So defining the drive should look like this:
def drive 3570lib 3570drive0 device=/dev/rmt0 element=16
def drive 3570lib 3570drive1 device=/dev/rmt1 element=17
But please check the element numbers for your own system.
When you want to label the tapes, you have to specify an element number
too. You can do it like this:
dsmlable -library=/dev/rmt0.smc -drive=/dev/rmt0,16 -search
assuming your element number for /dev/rmt0 is 16.
I hope this will help you a bit.
Bye,
Michael.

I assume that you run ADSM at a RS/6000 (AIX).
After installing ATape and rebooting you get a new device /dev/rmt0.smc.
(or /dev/rmt1.smc ...). This is the System Media Changer.
You will get a /dev/rmt0 and a /dev/rmt1 for the two tape drives in the
library.
Check that the library is NOT in split mode!
At the dsmadmc prompt you can now:
def libr 3570lib libtype=scsi device=/dev/rmt0.smc
def drive 3570lib 3570drive0 device=/dev/rmt0
def drive 3570lib 3570drive1 device=/dev/rmt1
def devc 3570class devtype=3570 library=3570lib mountlimit=2
Hope that this will help you.
