I just read the draft redbook for V3. WOW!

I have a question for the development staff. We're facing some
challenges in the area of Year 2000 testing (not testing ADSM, but
     backup/restore of several Y2K "point-in-time" scenarios). We'd like
to be able to back up entire file systems or maybe certain directory
structures for testing under various dates (going forward and backward
     in time).

Obviously, incremental backups would not be the answer, with our
playing around with time and space. A selective backup under V3 would
give us what we want (including empty directories), but I wonder how a
point-in-time restore could really deal with time warps such as this.
Selective restores by version would be awkward at best.

It seems to me that archive/retrieve would hold the most promise. My
question is: can I archive entire tree structures (SUBDIR=YES) with
V3? The doc seems to hint at this.

If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear from you.
