Hi,
I said that I would add another message once I had NetTape up and running
with ADSM. So here it is.
After much trial and error, I finally have NetTape working with ADSM.
Although at this stage we haven't pushed it at all; the ADSM server that
has NetTape installed goes live tomorrow.
I have heard that others have had reliability issues with this
configuration so we are making sure that we will be able to easily go back
to a more standard configuation if needed.
A few of the issues that we have come across:
The documentation says that the ADSM library name must be the same as a
NetTape device pool name. But it doesn't make it clear that it cannot be
an 'esoteric' device pool
We have not be able to get the ADSM stand-alone utilities such as DUMPDB
to work with NetTape controlled devices. We had to change our devconfig
file back to a standard configuration to be able to use these
As I mentioned in a previous message, the documentation is quite pool.
Most of what you need to know is documented, but not necessarily in the
NetTape documentation. I would strongly advise anyone looking to set up
NetTape that they get there hands on the redbook 'AIX Tape Management'
(SG24-4705-00) as there are some items covered in there that just are
not in the NetTape documentation
I will give more details in a few days as to whether NetTape has been a
success or not once we start using it in anger.
