Hi,
I am currently beginning (or rather trying to begin...) to use ADSM
SGi clients. However the following excerpt from the current client's
README file is (at least) annoying:
********************* excerpt from SGI client readme ********
ADSTAR Distributed Storage Manager Silicon Graphics IRIX (SGI) Client
README
Version 2, Release 1, Level 0.6
-----------------------------------------------------------------
o SYSTEM
o SYSTEM
~~~~~~
This package runs on the IRIX Operating System Version
5.2. Version 5.3 and IRIX 6.2 are also supported,
except for the feature provided by the XFS file system
allowing file system sizes larger than 2 GByte and file
sizes larger than 2 GByte.
********************* end of excerpt *************************
I can live without support for 2 GB files, but hardly for filesystems.
Most SGIs around have such fs. Points to remember (that's for ADSM dev. team):
1. SGI. by default formats one filesystem on the system disk (it's a fact,
never mind the pro/con arguments), and that's the way the users get their
stations !
2. Anyway, filesystems > 2GB are becoming very common .
I did read on this list about positive experience using the client on SGi-IRIX
machines, but not mentioning the issue of > 2GB fs.
Can anyone (hopefully from the ADSMers on this list) enlighten us about
this issue (including beta/future releases) ? How about efs > 2GB (I do
have such beasts around).
Regards,
/Zvika
