Bindery Emulation

My Netware 4.11 client claims ADSM forces them to use Bindery Emulation
which is something they don't want to do. I'm not familiar with that term. I
thought that the client code was the same for all Netware and required only the
correct Tsands, Smdr, and TCPIP NLMs.
What could this Bindery Emulation be?
