Your user is an idiot.  But we enjoy positions created to compensate for
their actions.  Given that this user has apparently partially repopulated the
subdirectory with files which conflict with former directory names, you could
play with options like -LAtest and -REPlace; but you may be better off just
restoring to a new subdirectory on that client and letting this user
pick-and-choose what files he/she wants back, either adopting the new subdir
as-is, or copying from the new to the old within the client after the restoral.
