Julie,

Judging by the times of your messages yesterday, you had a long hard day.
I don't monitor this forum multiple times daily, but I hope this note may
still be helpful.

I wish I had server right now I could experiment with, but that is not the
case, so I cannot test any suggestions at this point.

When ADSM backs up the NT registry it does 2 things: 1) It uses NT native
utilities to back the registry up to a directory called adsm.sys on c:. 2)
The backup of this directory and all of its subdirs is done via normal ADSM
processing. Therefore the following should be possible IF NT allows you to
overwrite the registry while it is running.

Restore the adsm.sys subdirectory from a previous version using normal adsm
file restore commands. This is obviously after the OS and ADSM are
installed. Copy the actual files from the appropriate subdirs under
adsm.sys to the actual location under the winntroot subdirectory. For
example on my machine you would:
Copy C:\adsm.sys\Registry\machinename\Machine> (all files except system)
     to C:\WINNT\system32\config>

At this point you can power off the server and restart. A portion of the
registry will be written to under normal shutdown and may corrupt the
registry. Obviously, these steps should be done with as many services
stopped and as close to an idle state as possible.

Depending on the version of NT you backed up and are the user profile
restores will be done differently.

If I can be of any help or you would like to bounce some ideas off of me,
feel free to attempt to reach me @ (210) 456-4448. Please let me know how
it goes.

Good Luck,
  Dan T.
