We are using the ADIC Scalar 2/58 in our plant in Puerto Rico. We have had it
since fall of 1996.

ADSM uses only 1 of the "mailbox" slots. It uses it as an I/O port. I don't
know whether IBM will modify its driver to use the other slots. You might
consider going for the 448 if you don't mind having to open the library to
remove and add cartridges.

We have had some problems, that were always solved by ADIC promptly.

The mailbox sensor for empty/full were miswired at the factory.

The picker has been replaced once.

The mailbox has been replaced once.

We also bought 6 of the 2/18 for our field locations in the USA. One of them
was DOA. Another had picker problems.

Hope that helps.

We are in the process of putting up ADSM on an AIX 4.1 machine and are
currently considering our choice of tape library. We have decided upon
a two DLT drive model and would be interested in hearing any comments
from existing users of any of the following libraries as used in conjunction
with ADSM :

StorageTek 9714
ATL 520 Series ( 2/28 or 2/52 )
TTi Q2
ADIC Scalar ( 2/18, 2/24, 2/48 or 2/58 )

Any comment, even 'use it, no problems' are gratefully received. It's nice
to have an idea how many, if any, are being used in anger.
