We use ADSM Version 1 running under AIX to back up a number of AIX
systems. Some of these have Oracle installed. In these cases we use
SQL-BackTrack to back up the Oracle databases. SQL-BackTrack uses
the ADSM API interface to send data to the ADSM server. We have
SQL-BackTrack configured to generate backup rather than archive
files. In general, ADSM deletes the files about a month after they
are created (presumably after being told by SQL-BackTrack that the files
have been deleted from the client system). However, two lines of
evidence indicate that some of the files sent by SQL-BackTrack don't
get deleted. First, QUERY CONTENT commands occasionally show
SQL-BackTrack files much more than a month old (the file names
generated by SQL-BackTrack incorporate date information). Second,
the amount of data QUERY OCCUPANCY shows in filespaces used by
SQL-BackTrack is significantly greater than the amount of data
the SQL-BackTrack clients send in a month. I suspect that these
old files are the aftermath of changes in the specifications used
for database backups, and that files created under an old set
of specifications and in existence at the time of the change
never were and never will be erased under the control of the newer
set of specifications that replaced it. Is there any known way to
get rid of the old SQL-BackTrack files?
