Wouldn't we all like that! Seriously, there was a thread about
this on the listserv late last summer (I'm sure it can be found
on the archives of the list).

I just did a check of our statistics. Gripper accesses in our
3494 look like this:

   Gripper 1: 24,815
   Gripper 2: 113

I can only wonder what happened to make those 113 accesses on the
second Gripper. Perhaps during installation of the 3494, when all
components were being exercised by our CE?

I can accept that this is a relatively new option (ca. one year,
at least?), and some software may not make as judicious use of it
as possible. It does seem strange, however, as Owen suggests,
that the 3494 *itself* doesn't seem to take advantage of it. If I
put ten tapes in the input/output station, I would expect the
armature to make five trips, taking two tapes at a time. Not ten
trips.
