I use the exits as well and also call VMTAPE to mount the tape. I get a
0 rc from VMTAPE even when the exit issues a "NO RING" tape mount, so
VMTAPE apparently doesn't care. I can see from the OPERATOR console
that VMTAPE attaches the tape drive to DSMSERV and that DSMSERV
immediately detaches it and XAUTOLOG's the exit machine again, so it is
DSMSERV and not VMTAPE that is checking the file protection of the tape.
I just want to be able to tell DSMSERV to take the tape as-is.

Hello Jim

The following answer is have guess. We do the exit part. But as our exit
passes on the r/o or r/w to vmtape it is then respected.
I would assume that dsmserv does not check.

If dsmserv does not check. Then you could code a tape mount exit to
issue the request to the operator's. In the exit you can map r/o and r/w
to r/w. The exit is just a pool of virtual machines that get autologged
with a parm string that has all the parms needed to get the correct
tape mounted.
