Subject: Refreshed Solaris 2.5, other clients on FTP server

We have put several new ADSM client images on the anonymous FTP server
(index.storsys.ibm.com) this month that are different from the PTF 6
images currently shipping on media. I've described them below. In
addition, I put a client table at the end that has all the client
PTF 6 images on the FTP server now that differ from the images put
out on the FTP server in December 1996.

REFRESHES SINCE THE CLIENT PTF 6 MEDIA SHIPPED:

1) SOLARIS 2.5.1 NOW SUPPORTED FOR B/A, SAGUI, API CLIENTS

The most important one is a new Solaris 2.5 image (IP20999) that supports
and installs the Backup/Archive, SAGUI, and API clients on Solaris 2.5.1.
This client will come out on media at the end of March/beginning of April
as PTF IP21104. Please note the HSM client is still not supported on
Solaris 2.5.1 at this time, though it is a known requirement for the
future. Only the README, SAGUI code, and installation script changed
in this new image.

We discovered two problems with the SAGUI in our testing of this
Solaris 2.5 image on Solaris 2.5.1, and we corrected one.
The first, a coredump when deleting events from the central scheduler,
is fixed in the IP20999 image out on the anonymous FTP server now.
The second, a coredump after a rather unusual sequence of selecting
objects to print and then cancelling the print, has an easy normal workaround
and will not be fixed until the official PTF. APAR IC16593 was opened
for the problem, and contains the workaround. We felt it was more
important to put out something now that would work on 2.5.1 than to
delay things to correct a rather obscure APAR.

Please also note again that if you backed up files on Solaris 2.5 or
Solaris 2.5.1 with PTF 5, you will get an initial full backup on
the first incremental with PTF 6, due to the APAR fix for IC15350.

2) HP 10.20 AND SGI 6.2 SUPPORT, BUT NO >2 GB OR VERITAS FS SUPPORT

The HP 10 and SGI READMEs (IP20996 and IP20995) were refreshed to say
that these clients are now supported on the HP 10.20 and SGI 6.2 operating
systems respectively, but will not support new operating system functions
such as >2 Gb file sizes (or the Veritas filesystem on HP) at this time.
Those are known requirements for the future. Only the READMEs changed.

While the HP 10 client was not tested on the HP 10.10 operating system,
we believe it will work with the same restrictions as HP 10.20, and we'll
take PMRs and APARs from HP 10.10 users as well.

3) SUNOS SEV 1 APAR IC16603 FIX

The SunOS client image was refreshed to correct a Sev 1 APAR, IC16603,
where a max filesize set to something other than nolimit can cause
backups to go to tape or fail, due to a compiler bug.
The IP20979/IP20980 image normally applies to both SunOS 4 and
Solaris 2.3/2.4, but the image was only changed in the SunOS directory
on the anonymous FTP server, because nothing was wrong with or changed
for the Solaris 2.3/2.4 client. Client code and README changed.

4) SCO, NEC, SEQUENT PTX/4 PACKAGE CORRECTIONS

The SCO (IP20990), NEC (IP20998), and Sequent PTX/4 (IP21001)
clients all had errors in their packages (not code errors) and
have been refreshed. The SCO and NEC clients have new PTF numbers
because the packages went out on media wrong also. Those numbers
are IP21086 for SCO, and IP21087 for NEC. Those new PTFs with the
corrected diskette images will be out on media shortly.

We are currently investigating whether the Sequent PTX/4 client
went out on media containing the PTX/2 client image instead of the
PTX/4 client image. If so, it will also get a new PTF number, but for now,
the new IP21001 image on the FTP server is the correct and final one.
