I don't think you can use backup for both needs. The way I understand it,, the
backup management class assigned to the daily backup copies will all be
reassigned to the monthly class when the monthly backup of the same files run.
I have some data with similar requirements. I set up a management class with a
backup copy group that satisfies, in my case, the weekly backup retention
requirements and an archive copy group that satifies the quarterly backup
retention requirements. I assigned these files to this management class in the
include/exclude list. In the backup copy group I set the frequency to 9999 so
the file would not be backed up incrementally. Since selective backup ignores
the frequency, I use selective backup for the weekly backup and for the
quarterly backup I schedule an archive.

Subject: Monthly/Daily Schedule Problem
I have a user who wants to back up their Oracle database dump file with the
following schedules/retention periods:
1. Daily backup - Kept 28 days
2. Monthly backup - Kept 14 months
If I set up these two schedules, on the day the monthly backup takes place,
I will also get a daily backup. This means that the same file will be backed
up twice in the same day. Since this is unnecessary and takes up network
time and storage space, does anyone know if there is a way I can
get around having the daily backup run on the day that the monthly backup
runs. I was thinking I might possibly be able to "trick" ADSM into not doing
the daily by giving the monthly backup a higher priority and having a very
small duration window so that the monthly backup wouldn't be completed
before the daily had a chance to start. Could this possibly work? Does
anyone have any other suggestions. Any help at all would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks.
Betsy
