Re: BACKUP STG error: ANR9999D ASRTRV(494)

I have seen a similar error on an MVS platform, running V2.1.0.10 to
3490E tape drives :

The tape was later mounted for read during storage pool backup, and
gave the following error :

ANR9999D ASRTRV(494): End reached prematurely on volume AD0053.
ANR5351I End of volume reached for AD0053 on device 0ACB.

On reading the tape externally to ADSM, NO media problems were found.
The trailer label was correctly written and contained the correct block
count. The BlockID of the last block on the tape was C9003D21.
This looks like an ADSM bug to me.

I recovered the tape by MOVE DATA to another tape, which moved all the
data but the last file, which gave the same error as shown above. I
then deleted the volume with DISCARDDATA=YES and redefined it back
in the same storage pool. It has since been reused and filled to
capacity with no errors.
