We are running ADSM Server v1 on MVS and Client V2 on HP Unix. I have a
question concerning retention of backup versions and would appreciate
some help ASAP:

BACKGROUND :

We run Selective backups on a specific directory every day. All the
files in this directory used to be bound to a Management Class of
DATABASE. I recently modified the backup.excl file so that the *.ARC
files would be bound to a Management Class of ARCLOG. These *.ARC files
are unique names that are only created once, then deleted after a period
of time. The *.ARC files that have been created since I modified the
backup.excl file are associated with the ARCLOG Management Class, as
would be expected. However, the *.ARC files which were already backed
up before that date are still associated with the DATABASE Management
Class.

QUESTIONS :

The Unix User guide indicates that the existing backup versions should
also be bound to the new Management class the next time an Incremental
or Selective backup is run. Does this also include backup versions of
files that were deleted prior to the change, or do the specific files
need to be backed up again before their Management Class is updated? If
this is the case, how do I go about deleting the backup versions of the
older files?
