I am running Novell Netware 3.12 on an IBM 3172-3 using LANRES R3
to store Novell disk-images on VM/ESA 2.2 MDISK.  I am installing ADSM
to backup the data on this Novell LAN, among others.  At this point I am
planning on using TCP/IP as the communication method between Novell and
ADSM.  I would like to be able to communicate via the ESCON connection
used between LANRES/VM and the 3172 to do backups via ADSM.  I have seen
in the LANRES DOC that this type of sharing may be possible using VTAM/AVS
/Netware for SAA.  I have also heard from someone that has tried this that
this was supported on an old Netware for SAA version, but not on the current
Netware for SAA V2.  I want to be able to communicate via the ESCON channel
to improve backup performance.  If there is someone from IBM or Novell out
there who could give me a brief definitive answer on whether it is possible
to communicate via the ESCON channel, and if so using what versions of
which products, I would greatly appreciate it.
