Subject: Redirecting/stifling HSM daemon output?

The HSM daemons, such as dsmrecalld, put their messages to the AIX
console (/dev/console) - regardless of any attempt to redirect them.
It seems that the modules are doing an explicit open of /dev/console
(but without source code, one can't be sure). The documentation of the
daemons says nothing about message redirection.
This situation is a problem because of its interference with work
that the operators have to do at the console. It would also be nice to
be able to capture this stuff in log files, just in case. Does anyone
know of how to deal with this?
thanks, Richard Sims, Boston University OIT
