Joseph,

I'll try.

1. Do you have the latest TCP/IP fixes for Connect
applied? If not get them. I believe the latest level is
UN00067 for TCP/IP and US82106 for MPTS.

2. What level of the client are you using? If you have
fixpack 17 (OS/2) get V2R1 of the client from the ADSM
ftp site.

3. Do you have either the Getting Started with ADSM (IBM
Redbook #GG24-4321-00) or ADSM for OS/2: Advanced Topics
(IBM Redbook #SG24-4740-00) redbooks? Get them, they are
very helpful and only $30 each.

4. I do not know what the error means. I asuume that you
can ping from the client to the server system so it must
be an ADSM problem, but I don't know what. Double check
your options file and don't use the abbreviated keywords.
Remove any unnecessary lines and only set it up for one
communication method. If possible try using something
besides TCP/IP, such as NetBIOS, just to see what
happens. NETBIOS is included with Connect.

5. The question about using the server to control the
client can be answered by looking in your manuals under
server prompted scheduling. This topic is also covered in
the Getting Started redbook.

6. Setting up a tape drive is quite complicated. You
should first make sure the drive is compatible with ADSM
by adding the device DASMSDI.SYS to config.sys rebooting
the system and running the ADSMSDI.EXE utility in the
\adsmserv directory. This will find each ADSM compatible
SCSI device on your system and also tell you other
important information about which adapter it is on and
it's ID number. The getting started redbook covers this
pretty well, but it does have a few errors.

Finally:
I would first concentrate all efforts on getting the
connection established from client to server. Use the
default server configuration. Try creating a disk
volume/pool. Don't worry about the tape stuff until the
disk stuff works.

I am attempting to put together a document on my web site
that describes how to do all these things that you need
to do. I'll try to get it on there soon.

If you get the disk stuff working and still can't
configure the tape drive me let know.

ADSM is in serious need of some configuration and
installation improvement and we almost sent it back after
weeks of effort. If you can make it though this harrowing
time you will come to learn that it is a very powerful
tool.
