We are currently doing a Proof of Concept test for ADSM using MVS server
(ver1) and Netware and HP Unix clients (ver 2). We have a few questions
which we would like answered please :

1. Our current backup software is Arcserve. For Netware file servers,
Arcserve uses the archive bit to determine whether a file has been changed
or not. Our daily backups are incremental, accumulating every day, until
the weekly backup which is a full backup which resets this archive bit.
What I would like to know is does ADSM use this archive bit to determine
whether a file has been changed or not and, if so, does it reset it after
backing it up?
We are looking at the possibility of doing parallel backups with Arcserve
and ADSM and need to understand the implications.

2. I have seen that there is a DSMSCHED.LOG on each client, from where you
can get information about how many files were backed up and the throughput,
etc. However, this appears to be only for scheduled events, so if I was to
run a backup from the command line, where would I find this type of
information? I realise that it comes up on the server console, but you
can't scroll back if you miss something.
Also, is there anyway you can get this information from the server for all
clients?

3. What sort of Housekeeping is required on log files such as DSMSCHED.LOG
and how is it set up and monitored?

4. I have seen references to the DSMACCT.LOG file, but have noticed that
it doesn't exist on any of our clients. Can someone please explain this -
i.e. what it tells us, how it works, and how to set it up?
