To ensure that IPX/SPX is running on the AIX server, run:
/usr/lpp/adsmserv/bin/getipxad
it should report an spx address back. That address goes
into the client's option file. If you don't get an address
back, then SPX is not running or not enabled.
The other problem that crops up repeatedly is the inability
of clients to access the server with SPX. This is typically
due to source routing not being enabled at all points between
the client and the AIX machine, including any bridges or
routers.
A sniffer trace at either end will show who's not able to
get their packets all the way across.
If they are flowing all the way across on both ends, a call
to IBM Service is in order. At that point either ADSM level 2
or AIX Communications support will get involved.
