One point of improvement for the index.storsys.ibm.com ftp service
would be to give it a bigger bandwith pipe. It seems like it's hanging
off the end of a 56Kbs leased line. I got in yesterday but, it took
better than an hour and a half to get one 2MB file. At a crawling
transfer rate of ~400bps, I see why it is such a problem to get in during
the day. To transfer all the clients I use, it would take me 10-12
hours or so. I've noticed really slow transfer rates though, be it
10pm or 2am as well, it's just a slow crawl to get data out. Perhaps
the data could be distributed from another system in IBM-land with a
better network connection?
Personally, I try to use the mirror site at PSU most of the time and
I'd like to thank them for making it available.
