   I've been experiencing a great deal of difficulty in obtaining reliable 
performance from the Lotus Notes backup agent.

   Running ADSM/2 V2.1.2 client, V1.2.9 server and notes agent released with 
V2.1.2 client.  Clients are running OS/2 V2.11, with Notes V3.13.

   1.  Many times DSMNOTES completes without indicating any error condition 
but, has not backed up documents from all databases.

   2.  The agent uses an enormous amount of client memory - on a system with 
276MB of space on the drive containing the swap file, DSMNOTES returned the 
following message:
   "Notes:  Insufficient memory.  Check space on disk used for OS/2 swapping."
     On investigation, the swap file was over 80MB (normally less than 10MB).  
DSMNOTES had been running only 1:11 hours.  Had only accessed first 90 
databases, of over 200 on server.  Last database accessed was 92MB.

   3.  Attempted complete backup of server (ref. in para 2) the next day and 
received the following error from the Notes agent:
   "C:\ADSM\NOTES\DSMNOTES.EXE Thread=012C0001
    PANIC: LookupHandle:  null handle"
     Agent had been executing only 19 minutes - unable to determine if any 
databases were successfully backed up.  Server reported terminating session 
with client - apparently some time after client error was reported.

   4.  In another case, the agent reported the following error after 2:10 hours 
execution:
   "ANS0266I (RC2302)  The dsmEndTxn vote is ABORT, so check the reason field."

   This time the server reported a number of errors:
   "ANR9999D  ssalloc.c(204):  Allocate Prohibited - transaction failed"
   "ANR0530W  Transaction failed for session 312 - internal server error 
detected."
   "ANR0403I  Session 312 ended for node ...."


   Can anyone shed any light on these problems?

   Is there something I'm missing?

   It is very difficult troubleshooting Notes agent problems - the dsierror.log 
does not receive error messages consistently and there is no visibility to 
progress of the agent.  Notes error and activity logs do not receive updates, 
ADSM server seldom notes more than session start/end.  Apparently no way to 
tell whether the agent was successful in backing up a database without deleting 
documents and attempting restore them.

   Are there other troubleshooting tools for use with the Notes agent?

   Is there any way to determine specifically how many documents have been 
backed up, from which databases?
