Hello all,

one week ago I reported a dramatic performance degradation after
an upgrade to LAN Server 4.0. The time needed of an incremental
backup was reduplicated. The network throughput was not changed
though.

I found out that the number of files that are backuped every day
is five times higher now then before. And I found out that a lot
of files are backuped even if they are not changed either in file
size, change time stamp nor in their attributes. So two
incremental backups one followed immediately after the other sent
the same files to the ADSM server.

A trace showed that ADSM seems to work okay because it is
noticing a change of the Access Control Profile CRC whatever this
is and whatever has changed it. Probably this is an HPFS386
related problem. But applying the latest PTF IP08172 did not
resolve it.

This is a very serious problem for me. First I am not able to do
a complete backup of all our data. (I am speaking about 50 GB of
data and 1000 user) Second the confidence of the users in the
version control of ADSM is destroyed.

I need a very fast solution for my problem and definitely I do
not want to play ping pong with the ADSM and the OS/2 LAN Server
support team.

There are plans to migrate to Windows NT here and to change the
backup software at the same time would be an easy decision. I
would not love that step but it is not only up to me.

Any help, any comment - especially from IBM - is highly
appreciated.

Thank you in advance and have a great day.
