"I believe you only get the 'updating' message when you upgrade a client from
Version 1 to Version 2. ..."

We haven't upgraded any clients. The 'Updating file' message is
in the client's log file. It is for the same few files every week,
and occasionally many files will be 'Updated' rather than 'Saved'.
For example, here are the closing statistics for last nights' backup:
