What concerned me was that an AUDIT VOLUME FIX=NO reported that all files
past the bad tape area were unuseable. I figured that doing an AUDIT VOLUME
FIX=YES would remove all the same files that FIX=NO reported as being bad
(it seemed like a logical conclusion to me at the time. I didn't want to
test out my theory on our users' data!)

I think perhaps the behaviour may vary between tape device types, as some
devtypes have capabilities that others do not. At least this was part of the
explanation given to me at the time. When you did the AUDIT VOLUME FIX=YES,
Susan, what type of tape drive was it on? When we had our problem it was on
an 8500C 8mm drive. Also, before you ran FIX=YES, did you try FIX=NO? And
if so, do you happen to remember what it reported?
