Hi Jane,

If I understand your questions about defining device classes correctly,
you want to know:

1) How to display the device class after defining it, and
2) How to change the prefix associated with that device class.

For #1, you can use the QUERY DEVCLASS command. For example,

          QUERY DEVCLASS 3490E
          QUERY DEVCLASS 3490E FORMAT=DETAILED

Unfortunately you can't define or display device classes from the Admin
GUI. In fact, there are several admin functions that can't be done from
the Admin GUI. It isn't documented in the manuals, but the Admin GUI does
not provide full administrative function.

By the way, the Admin reference and on-line help (at least in the command
line Admin) will point you to related commands. For example, if you typed
HELP DEFINE DEVCLASS from the command line Admin, it would have
mentioned QUERY DEVCLASS as a related command.

Regarding #2: As far as I know, you can't modify a device class's prefix,
once it's been defined. You have to delete the device class and redefine
it with the desired prefix. Hopefully IBM will fix this in a future
release.

You mentioned that you wanted to call it 'SYS6.ADSM'. I don't know about
the other servers, but the MVS server limits the prefix to 8 characters.
I'm also pretty sure that you can't specify more than one qualifier. For
example, you'd get an error message if you tried to specify 'SYS6.DSM',
but not if you specified 'SYS6DSM'.

Hope this helps,
