. Yes, one can run the current Windows 3.1 ADSM client on NT.
This 16bit app (ADSM Windows client) runs on the 16-bit Windows
subsystem in NT. However, our experience has been bad,
after the ADSM client ran for a while, it hangs, and no
other apps can run.
. The Windows 3.1 ADSM Client supports *only* FAT file system.
NT, among other file systems, it supports FAT, HPFS and NTFS.
The Windows 3.1 ADSM Client uses low level DOS file system calls,
it might be able to open this HPFS and NTFS file systems, and
be able to back them up. However, since our client *only* supports
FAT, it won't be able to handle the long file name (for FAT, HPFS,
and NTFS) in NT, the Extended Attribute (EA) in HPFS and the
security in NTFS. So, our client might be able to back up all
these files, but when they are restored, the results may be
unpredictable.
. We do *not* support the Windows 3.1 ADSM client running on NT,
and we will not recommend it.
Hope this helps ...
