I've never had any problems starting the X admin client.

I installed 1.2.7 and ended up with two libraries in /usr/lpp/adsm/bin:
-rwxr-xr-x   1 bin    bin     734642 Jan 27 14:55 libipfx1.a*
-rwxr-xr-x   1 bin    bin     719488 Jan 27 14:55 libipfx2.a*
-rwxr-xr-x   1 bin    bin     719488 Jan 27 14:55 libipfx2.a*
/usr/lib/libipfx.a is a link to this libipfx2.a.
/usr/lib/libipfx.a is a link to this libipfx2.a.

The file I installed from was:
-rw-r--r--   1 root  sys    7168000 Mar 21 19:12 aix.v1r2m7.IP20334.smit
(sum 15323 7000), which I ftp'd from index.storsys.ibm.com and installed
(sum 15323 7000), which I ftp'd from index.storsys.ibm.com and installed
with smit.
