Melinda,

Have you set the environment variable RTVMCONV=0?  This setting will cause
extended and/or expanded memory to be used for paging of the executable
and leave most of the available conventional memory for application
data areas.  Also, are you using an expanded memory manager (eg. EMM386)
to make UMBs available for device drivers?  Loading device drivers
into upper mem blocks will make more conventional memory available for
the application.

BTW, the RTVMCONV environment variable is discussed in appendix A of the
ADSM User's Guide and Ref for DOS.
