Here is IBM's list of supported TCP/IP protocol stacks for ADSM:

THE ADSTAR DISTRIBUTED STORAGE MANAGER AND TCP/IP

THE ADSTAR DISTRIBUTED STORAGE MANAGER AND TCP/IP

The ADSTAR Distributed Storage Manager (ADSM) is very specific about its
TCP/IP requirements because it uses socket programming interfaces rather than
high-level applications such as File Transfer Program (FTP) or the Network
 File System (NFS).

o The DOS environment requires either of two products:

     1. IBM's TCP/IP Version 2 for DOS (02G7087); or,

     2. FTP Software's PC/TCP Version 2.1 or later

o The Microsoft Windows environment requires any of three products:

     1. IBM's TCP/IP Version 2.1 for DOS (02G7087); or,

     2. FTP Software's PC/TCP Version 2.1 or later with the current version
         of the PC/TCP WINSOCK.DLL

     3. The NetManage,Inc TCP/IP for Windows with the WINSOCK.DLL

Unfortunately, the optimism about being able to support any vendor's
TCP/IP with the WINSOCK application programming interface was unfounded.
Since the availability of Release 1, we have discovered that many TCP/IP
implementations that work under Windows do not work with ADSM. The list
of those that do not work is too long to include in this document. The
list of those that DO is shown above.

o The OS/2 environment requires IBM's TCP/IP Version 1.2 or later and will
not work with any other vendor's implementation of TCP/IP.

o The Apple Macintosh requires Apple Computer's MacTCP Version 1.0.1 with
     an Ethernet adapter card.

o The MVS and VM Servers require IBM's TCP/IP Version 2, Release 2. (Prod-
uct number 5735-HAL for MVS and 5735-FAL for VM.) The server uses the
Inter-User Communications Vehicle (IUCV) interface to pass data between
TCP/IP and ADSM. Thus, other TCP/IP implementations that do not provide
such an interface do not meet ADSM's requirements.

o The remaining clients all provide TCP/IP as part of their base operating
system. ADSM will use such TCP/IP implementations without difficulty.

SYSTEM.INI CHANGES NEEDED FOR PC/TCP IN THE WINDOWS ENVIRONMENT
 _______________________________________________________________

The Windows environment creates a file in the WINDOWS directory called
SYSTEM.INI. Within this file are segments by application program and windows
function (e.g., BOOT, KEYBOARD). Find the section labelled (Vpctcp) and
change the MinimumCopySpace variable to at least 32. The default setting is
sufficient to permit the ADSM client to backup files, but inadequate for file
restores. The symptoms of the problem are that the restore function hangs if
there is too little copy space.
