Given a tape library and multiple different policies for data storage, is there a simple (resource non-intensive) way to tell how much storage (the size of) active files and how much storage is used
I think the only way you'll be able to do this is via a rather long-running select. You might get some value out of doing your select one node at a time, that will decrease the database blockages inf

It has also been discussed several times that TSM doesn't appear to be a good fit for a VTL. May want to search the archives to find out more on the subject. Bill Boyer "Life is not about how fast yo

My $0.02. I guess if you are doing a whole bunch of LAN Free stuff or NDMP backups it can be nice since you can just define the drives as you need them and not worry too much about drive contention (

We have been using a VTL for 3-4 months and we consider it a success. Environment: -- -- * OS: AIX 4330-11 * TSM: Version 4, Release 2, Level 1.7 * Physical Library: Single frame 3494 w/2 3590E1A Dri

A lot of the earlier discussions on the list were related to the IBM 3494 VTL, which was designed for handling small chunks of seldom-used sequential data. It is prone to performance issues when hand

I agree with your comments and yes if your server/client can stream data fast enough to the tape drive you may be able to out-pace a disk drive. If you can not keep up with the tape drive then you ca
