Jon, err, I'd thought I'd had the terminology down. Degraded mode - not using spool area, writing to tape, performance degraded. vs Tape unavailable - keeping whatever will fit in spool, as you noted

Jon, Georg, Eric, In layman's terms, Amanda did take into account the spool capacity and did perform my largest dump last because the Driver prefers the smaller/faster dumps to start first, allowing
