- For the init string we had the same problem on AIX boxes...THe string AT&F or AT&F1 work beautifully.. for the variable $A are you using nvpage from the command line or in the ruleset. In the ruleset

- Try putting double quotes around the message you want to pass the pager. If you configure a rule set and try to call nvpage from there you need to use $NVATTR_A/1/2/etc. instead of $A, $1, etc.......
