I'm having a similar problem someone reported earlier. I have a subdirectory I'm tying to archive with gtar from the client "arnold". It failed, so I subdivided it into smaller pieces. For example, I

What version of tar are you using? It might be related to what I saw in my recent posting, where tar 1.16 now returns an error code of 1 when a file changes during the run. Previous versions returned

Tar is 1.14. (It's in RHEL4 ES)

That one, as from gnu.org, was broken, but I don't know about the RHEL vesions. 1.13-19, 11.13-25, and 1.15-1 are known good versions. -- Cheers, Gene
