You are right in that NetView's performance can be seriously affected by poor DNS operation. The daemons netmon and snmpCollect are two that come to mind first which rely heavily on name resolution I

I can't answer all of your questions, but I do know that if there is an error in DNS with a machine name it does show up in NetView. I had several machines with the wrong name in DNS and that incorre

Trapd relies heavily on name resolution -- there are two names to resolve in every trap -- and the same kind of resolution happens down the line in nvcorrd and actionsvr, if you are running rulesets

Hear, hear. But don't make the mistake one customer I know of made, and put your main DNS on the same box as Netview. You do want to be able to reboot you Netview system without scheduling an outage
