That is a little unusual that they would allow SNMP rather than ping. The IP packets from a SNMP(UDP) standpoint present more of a security risk than PING (ICMP). I got the same sort of stuff going o

Tom & Bob, Juan suggested upgrading to v6 and using SNMP polling, which is probably the simplest solution, provided you are able to upgrade. I'm thinking perhaps that another option is the use of an

Tom, Fisrt upgrade to NV 6.x. You will have to add the devices manually that are ouside the firewall. NV will not discover them through a firewall with ICMP blocked. Next add an entry into your seed
