I'm not familiar with the linux client and we are not using dhcp, but my $0.02: AFAIK: If you are using 'client polling' mode I think the server does not have to know the ip address. And- every time

There were several comments to my question: My remarks to the kind comments: We DO use "Passwordaccess Generate" in dsm.sys. The DHCP server DOES assign new IP-addresses from time to time, so you've

The server is noting that the node has changed IP-address and asks for the password. This is done so you can restore your backups to a different machine, when a client machine has broken down due to

That may be right. However, in the present case the ADSM client ALREADY knows the correct ADSM password (it is only the IP address that has changed owing to DHCP). So there seems to be no good reason
