I was getting the same error as you, but only when it tried to backup the bootstrap: "error, no matching devices; check storage nodes,devices or pools" But our issues were due to the Networker server

by right the bootstrap and index will go to the same pool as data. so do you have the pool tape of sap data that is accessible to backup server. or do you have default pool on the backup server? chee

According to the Unix admin guide for 6.1 the bootstrap an dthe servers index has to be backed up by a local device on the networker server, it can't be backed up on a remote device. Check out page 1
